This is 'Fake News'! The term London Dry actually refers to the style of gin making, rather than the geographical location that the gin is made. The only legal requirement for a London Dry Gin is that the botanicals are added during the distilling process rather than being added later as flavouring.  In addition, a London Dry Gin does not allow the addition of sugar or colourings.

Hogarth's Famous Gin Lane was one of a pair, the other was Beer Street.

Hogarth's famous Gin Lane, was not meant to just show the evils of drinking, but specifically the evils of drinking gin.  It was one of a pair, the other was Beer Street.  Beer Street showed London as Hogarth envisioned it, consuming beer instead of gin.  Here the citizens were a perfect picture of health, as morbid obesity was considered health at that time. I wonder if he were alive today what the pictures might look like!
